Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
Ron Dawn graduated from Newport Catholic High School in 1974. Coach Dawn led his team to two 9th Region Championships in 1973 and 1974. He began his teaching career at Newport Catholic High School in 1979. He spent four years at St. Henry High School from 1985 to 1989 when he was hired as the head boys’ basketball coach. He returned to Newport Central Catholic in 1990 when he was hired as the head boys’ basketball coach for his alma mater. He resigned in 2001 to follow his son’s collegiate basketball career. He returned to the sideline for the girls' team in 2009 and returned to the boys' program in 2014. He resigned following a run to the KHSAA State Semi-Finals in 2016 but returned in 2020 for two more seasons. Dawn is the only coach to win an All ‘A’ Classic Statewide Championship for boys and girls basketball and the only 9th Region Coach to win a Region Championship for girls and boys basketball. In all, he earned 520 career victories coaching varsity basketball Dedicated 50 years of his life to Newport Catholic as a student, player, coach, principal, and teacher.
