Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
An athletic late bloomer, Mr. Dawson was a champion in both shot put and discus while at Bryan Station, despite only participating his last couple of years. Following his senior year, he was named All American in Track due to his performances. In football, he didn't begin playing until his junior year, but had an immediate impact, being named All-City and All State at both offensive and defensive tackles. Later he had a stellar career at the University of Kentucky including two bowl appearances. As a freshman, his published goal was to "try and play pro football". That trial proved to slightly successful as he was a seven-time pro-bowler at center for the Pittsburg Steelers between 1988 and his retirement in 2000.
