BOARD CONSIDERS STATE FOOTBALL SITE PROPOSAL

Representatives from the Bowling Green Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and Western Kentucky University made a presentation before the KHSAA Board of Control to host the 2009 and 2010 Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl State Football Championships at the Board’s meeting Monday.  Bowling Green/WKU was the only venue to submit a proposal to host the event.

The Board voted to table a decision until its Oct. 24 special meeting in Lexington to allow the KHSAA Commissioner and staff to visit the site as well as individuals within the corporate community on support for the event.

“Overall we were very pleased with the proposal,” KHSAA Commissioner Brigid DeVries said.  “The Board wanted additional time to review the proposal submitted which will allow the Commissioner and staff the opportunity to visit the facility and with folks from the corporate community who had expressed an interest in sponsorship of the event.”

WKU’s Houchens/L.T. Smith Stadium recently received a $50 million dollar renovation that included increasing seating capacity to 21,649, video board and locker room renovations.

The 2008 Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl is scheduled for Dec. 12-13 and will be played at the University of Louisville’s Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
